“The situation is still unpredictable. We must act quickly and be prepared,” said Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy, during a press conference at Palazzo Berlaymont alongside Teresa Ribera, European Commissioner for Competition. Jørgensen said our fossil fuel import spending has increased by more than €24 billion since the crisis began: that’s more than €500 million a day. The situation is therefore still difficult and unpredictable, so it is necessary to make it clear to European citizens that they are ready for anything. He went on to point out that the Commission would work with Member States to secure gas stocks in time for next winter, without putting unnecessary pressure on the markets.
