“This type of business model is also under pressure from AI,” said Francesco Cancellato, director of Fanpage.it, during the event “AI and Information: A Possible Alliance?” organized by Gaetano Pedullà and Mario Furore (Sinistra The Left) at the European Parliament. “There are two fundamental issues: ownership of the content posted online, which means this content is being taken over by AI; and, on the other hand, there’s a crisis in the intellectual profession. We have a dual crisis that threatens not only the Italian economy, but also democracy, especially when it comes to independent publishing”.
