“The European Union is simply not prepared for the intensifying impacts of climate change. We see our infrastructure failing, emergency hospital services overwhelmed, and schools forced to close due to extreme heat. Local leaders are bearing the brunt of this crisis; mayors are truly the frontliners in this response to climate change. We need an immediate, joint institutional effort to bolster adaptation. To address the demand side of this dilemma, the European Commission will unveil a comprehensive Electrification Action Plan around mid-July. We must accelerate the transition toward clean, homegrown technologies to secure long-term regional resilience.” This was stated by EU Commissioner for Clean Transition Teresa Ribera during a press briefing at the European Parliament in Brussels on the sidelines of the plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions.
