“Let’s limit the availability of weapons used in street crime” stated Carlo Fidanza, MEP for The European Conservatives and Reformists Group, made this statement on the sidelines of the launch event for the book “Piumini e catene. Storie di Maranza”, held at the European Parliament in Brussels, commenting on the incident in Bergamo, where a teacher was stabbed in the throat by a 13-year-old pupil. The term “maranza” defines an urban youth phenomenon, born in Milan and spread on social media, which describes groups of teenagers (often second-generation) characterized by a street look (suits, purses, chains), trap music, and, sometimes, bullying or petty crime.
