“1,500 schools in Europe are using this approach,” said Francesco Profumo, president of the Reggio Children Foundation, on the sidelines of the conference “The European Alliance for Early Childhood Education and Care”.
He stated: “Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of the Reggio Children approach, passed away many years ago, but he left behind a very important legacy. There are 3,500 schools around the world that use the Reggio Emilia Approach and 1,500 are in Europe. Malaguzzi’s great insight was that children possess 100 languages, yet normally only a few of these are activated through education. “Let’s think of spoken language, rather than the language of reading or music,” he added. “Through play, children learn to live in a community, to understand what democracy is, and to have the opportunity to grow in an environment. This is a wonderful dream”.
