“We must accelerate the process of derisking, not decoupling.” This means reducing risks and excessive dependence on China, without, however, severing economic or trade ties with Beijing. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made this statement during a press conference following the European Council meeting on June 19, 2026. Von der Leyen addressed the issue of structural overcapacity and global imbalances, highlighting the need to protect the European market from unfair practices.
