“We are calling for specific actions to help families and children,” said Stefania Ganci, vice president of the Pans Pandas parents’ association, on the sidelines of the conference “PANS and PANDAS: a bridge between science, healthcare, and European policies,” organized by Forza Italia MEP, part of the PPE group, Salvatore De Meo. The Vice-President stressed the historic importance of this meeting at the headquarters of the European institutions to try to take action against PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections) syndrome. These are acute-onset pediatric neuropsychiatric syndromes, characterized by the sudden onset of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tics, severe anxiety, and behavioral changes. They are caused by an autoimmune reaction that alters neurological functions, often triggered by infections, and affect healthy children from two years of age rapidly
